Seishinryu Iai-do

Seishinryu Karatedo Association Kaiseikan also instructs Iai-do. Seishinryu Iai-do is one of Japanese Budo, which aims at training the minds and bodies of the trainees through instructing direction of Japanese sword, nihonto. It is also physical culture. Particularly, using sharp thing, Japanese sword, unlike the other martial arts, the aspects training itself of the heart is much more important than the physical culture side. If handle it keeping idle thoughts in mind, say a senior, tend to be hurt. So, a clean soul is the secret of Iai-do, as it is said in the definition of Iai-do. Therefore, merely drawing and returning of a sword are not the ascetic practices of iai-do. You must polish your heart through your sword, and then must learn how to win your own heart.

Slash him if he draw. Do not slash kim if he does not draw. Be carefull when you ware your sword.

This is Japanese poem about a sword. The mind of this poem is also explained in the next song. “The soul of Iai-do is to avoid being slashed, to avoid slashing and then walking stable being strict with oneself.” To prevent any troubles is the right goal of learning Iai-do. Any techniques of using a sword are just one of the means. This means that physical movement using a sword is just one of the means and the essence of Iai-do is in the mental training. The form using a sword, in the other word the movement of the body, is said to be the movement of the heart.

1.To slash someone is not Iai-do, not to be slashed by anyone is Iai-do.
1.Make it goal of you to be clean, do not have enemy in your mind.
1.Win the fight in your mind.
